ok i found a 72 comet today. its got a warmed over 351w 4v and c4 but the body needs work the sheet metal for the driver floor pan is rusted out pretty bad the floor supports and torque boxes are good. light rust around the drip rails and a lil cancer on the doors. the guy wants $2500 but i think i could get it for $2000 but what i need to know is is this an outrageous price or is it about right?

I was thinking it was a lil high but to be honest for around here its the best i've found. They're hard to find around here and when you do you either get "oh its not for sale I'm getting ready to start restoring it" then you drive by a year or two later and its still sittin in the same spot with even more rust on it or for the price they're asking you'd think they were sellin a 66 fastback 'stang.

    Where are you located?

Might could come out ahead if you buy one elsewhere and have it delivered.

I'm located in Eastern NC, and to be honest i've never really looked at how much it would cost to ship a car. And i would have to have someone local that could go look at it before I bought it just for my peace of mind

Have a truck? Rent a Uhaul trailer and make a road trip?

If you have it delivered, I'd imagine a forum memeber could go inspect the car if it was close enough to 'em.

Well there ya go. You're half a days drive from the south Bama/Gawga area, and there seems to be an aubundance of good cars down here. Rent a Uhaul trailer on a weekend so you cna use it for two days at a single day's rate, and have a slow easy trip :thumbs2:

Anyhow - What are you looking for? (already great condition, restorable, anyting with a V8, etc) Price range?

really i'm lookin for a good project. not really lookin for a finnished show car but not a rust bucket either somewhere in a happy medium. motors not really an issue but a a v8 car would be nice to drive until i can aford the M2 frontend so i can put the 460ci and c6 i have sitting in my shop in it:D. As far as price cheaper the better but really I was lookin to spend 1500 or less. its not going to be a DD just a nice lil street machine and an ongoing project for me.

keep your eyes on Ebay and Craigs list and in the classifieds here on this board. I bought both of my Mavericks on Ebay and I admit I paid a little more for them than most would but I pretty much got what I wanted when I wanted it. i could have waited around and gotten more for the same $$ or gotten the same for less $$. I had to go from MD to Florida for one and to Westerrn NC for the other. It was fun going to get them. The one in Florida I flew in and the guy picked me up and let me use his tags to drive it home, the one in NC I brought my tags and drove down with my Dad in his truck, brought a tow bar just in case and drove the Maverick home and just followed Dad or had him follow me and drove her on home to Maryland

If you are willing to make the road trip there are deals to be had.

I guess a lot would also depend on the 351,c-4 and what condition it's in.
If it's not a lot of rust then it might not be a bad price. If you got to rent a trailer and take time and fuel to go get something else that adds to the expense. Good luck:)

If you buy something, just ask friends or coworkers.Somebody usually will loan a trailer if they know you.I had to buy a second trailer just for that reason.
