Do we represent less than 1% of all hot rodders?

One of the magazines recently posted "109 Readers Rides" and not a SINGLE Maverick or 70s Comet.

Does this mean that less than 1% of all hot rodders are using our cars?

Yet, you tell someone "I am building a Maverick" and they all say they had one, it was their dad's first car, or "saw one at the track"...

    What's up with that?

    Popular Hotrodding.

There were a couple 60 Comets, but none of our cars.

It could just be that we are either a modest bunch, or just downtrodden, and didn't send in our projects for submission to the magazine.

Downtrodden, as in "I doubt they would choose my car, since we are the red-headed step-children of the hot rodding world."

Hell Scott, I can't seem to get people HERE to submit pics for a calander.

Rarely do I grab that magazine. I have always reserved biased feelings about Popular Hotrodding. Maybe it's me but everytime I have looked or try to read it, it seems like they are doing articles and showing pics of the neighbors car or someone they know. I also remember Chevy and Mopar were tops on the list, been awhile since I read that mag tho. I'll read Car Craft any day :drive:

All the car magazines are Chevy (Camaro) heavy, with a light dose of MOPAR. But the technology is good for our cars, so I read 3 of them to keep up with what is happening.

I read Hot Rod, Pop Hotrodding, and of course the best is Car Craft.

I once had a guy with a 69 z28 talk down to me and ask why I would build a Maverick. My answer was "it weighs 2600 pounds, fits bigger tires under the rear than your Z'r,cost 25% of your Z'r, and when people see your Z at a light its just another Camaro. My car at a light causes whip lash and stops people crossing the street to ask about it." He took offence for some reason.:thumbs2:

I think that very few people are building mavericks. we'll forever be in the shadow of the vintage mustangs, and I don't think it'll ever change.

I have a similar love affair with 79-86 mustangs, and they get NO respect and love compared to their 87-93 cousins...in fact I watch the 87+ mustangs sell for 4-12 grand all the time, and I barely got $3 grand for mine, which was a turn key low 13 second car.

I agree that Mavericks will probably always be in the shadow of mustangs, but more so than Comets. I myself didnt even know what a comet was until 5 years ago. Mention the word comet and everyone thinks of those 66 shoe box cyclones. I hate searching for comet parts, you get 10,000 parts for a 66 and have to weed through it all, I prefer looking for mav parts. A Maverick is a Maverick only.
