Whenever I turn or step on the brakes the engine light on the dashboard lights up. As soon as I resume going straight or come to a full stop the engine light turns off.

The other weird thing is that after I've been driving on the freeway for about 5 minutes or so, something under the hood starts making a rapid ticking sound. The speed goes up and down with the speed of the car. I can drive it on city streets forever and nothing happens though.

Any ideas on what's going on with either of these things would be greatly appreciated.

definitly low oil level. probly will need at least two quarts. on these older motors oil consumption was higher than newer motors. people used to pop there hoods and check the fluids regulary or the gas station atendants (rember when full service was all that there was) would check the levels.

Yeah, that's what I had been thinking, but whenever I checked the dipstick the levels were good. When I opened it up this morning though, I realized I had been checking the tranny fluid dipstick instead of the oil one. I had forgotten which was which over the winter while my dad was using the car much more often then myself and he was taking care of that stuff. Still pretty stupid of me though.

Anyways, I put in a quart now, and I'll check it again this afternoon to see if it needs another. Can't be going to see Transformers 2 with a car that's low on oil!
