Been looking at mufflers and stuff at summit and realized I don't know the diameter of the exhaust pipe currently on my car. It's a 1974 4 door 250 Auto. :tiphat:

Honestly I've been looking for something as loud as hell and cheap. Haven't hit the junkyard yet. Leaning towards Flowtech Red Hots. I know a lot of people hate glasspacks but I can't think of a car I ever owned that didn't have one.:bouncy:

Im one of the people who dont like glasspacks lol especialy since most modern mufflers dont wear out and i get them for about half the price of a new glasspack.

if you want loud and cheap, then yeah I would say glasspacks are the way to go. I think Cherrybombs are the most common, and Thrush too. Anyways, the smallest one we stock at our store, IIRC, are the 2" which seems about right for a stock maverick exhaust. If not, you can always get a couple adaptors at your local auto parts store.

I saw some of the adapters for fairly cheap. I've always gotten cherrybombs before. One car I bought had one welded on when I got it.

You've got a big bumpered 4 door with a 6 cylinder. Why do you want it loud? :hmmm:

I think I just like being obnoxious. I used to have a 4 door metro that sounded like an airplane driving by. People called it the crop duster.

You want it loud- you need a hammer and a big spike to poke some holes in the muffler.:p Hey J/K.

Primarily to set off car alarms as we cruise down the street!

Also, to draw the attention of pedestrians who were not paying attention to us as we cruise down the street.

To announce our arrival at car shows and cruise-ins.

To drown out the monotonous thump of hip-hop-rap-crap emanating from the ricers sitting beside us in traffic.

My stock 200 six has no resonator and a glasspack in the rear - I think it's 1 7/8" OD pipe most of the way back and I really like the sound at idle and heavy throttle. I think people recommend 2" O.D. maximum for a six and 2 1/2" O.D. maximum for an 8 to get nice sound and streetable back pressure unless you have a race motor.

"Disturbing the Peace" is the motto for Cherry Bombs.... gotta luv that... but if you don't like the crackling noise of a cherry bomb I think the factory style resonators alone have a great sound (without the muffler).

I used OEM resonators on a 455 - sounded really nice - and I think the original "Bullit" Mustang used Ford resonators alone (great sound on a 390) even though some of the sound was "dubbed" from an actual race car in the movie.

This is my plan for a cheap exhaust if I can find a second resonator.

I know a guy did that with an old T-bird - sounded absolutely awesome (kinda makes yer hair stand up when he revved it) - problem is the "rusting out" phase that starts immediately after driving in the rain a few times....

    Vroom Vroom....
