I'm confused about some stuff on my car. So when I had a V8 installed from my old I6 the mechanic got rid of the points. I know there is a coil on my engine (I can see it). My question is, does my car have duraspark? I'm going to be replacing my distributor because the vacuum probably is bad on it and Craig S suggested I might as well replace the whole distributor for a little bit more $. I found this one from kragen, should work right? here is a pic of what might be relevant: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/L_5ZStmH0wXOPTuWw76idg?feat=directlink http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/UfbVaybMq3Tlmgu5nQGZkg?feat=directlink
Take the cap off. If it has the breaker point, you'll know your answer. Breaker Point - (letter B) EDIT - Besides that, I don't see an ignition module anywhere for the duraspark.
If you don't have a silver box on your firewall that says DURASPARK on it and connected to your coil ... you don't have it ..
You're looking for one of these. http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/images/durasparkignitionmodule.jpg
Here is the pics from the rotor, ran out and took a pic with my phone: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/E_pTBug8tKtJDtDbHutsSg?feat=directlink What is this thing under my starter relay? http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/xjFGjMuXwqjEK1rX3SS02Q?feat=directlink
Here is the Kragen parts number 302809 And here is the Kragen link again if it works http://shop.oreillyauto.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=A1C&MfrPartNumber=302809
NOT a Dura-Spark but it IS an Electronic ignition. Some sort of aftermarket. Looks like a Pertronics to me but I have only installed 1 of those. Don't care much for them but they work alright. The box under the starter Solenoid does look like an ignition box. Never seen one like it though. Whatever you have it is far better than points clint
yeah that is the pertronix kit, running the same thing in mine. im watching this thread by mr hines because it is relevant to ours... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=56852
Agreed. It's a Pertronix ignition and a voltage regulator under the starter solenoid/relay. What is the the reason for the inquiries, I guess I forgot.
