So my C4 tranny has a problem and I have absolutly no idea what's wrong with it. I can shift through the gears but it will not move, foward, backwards. NOTHING.. It's like it's stuck in park but I can shift through the gears. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong...

Have you checked the fluid level lately?

Check the shift linkage. THe rubber donuts crumble and the rods fall out of each other.

First; Check the oil level with the engine idling in Park.
If that is OK then check your linkage.
If the linkage looks OK on the outside of the transmission then it may have slipped off the valve or dropped the "rooster comb" on the inside. You will have to drop the pan (beware you will drain the transmission when the pan comes off) and the valve body to see if it is all in place. While you are there you can check your filter and the relief valve that is held in place by the filter. (the relief valve is there to limit the line pressure to "safe" levels)

Yup, low fluid can result in it not working at all. Make sure to check the fluid while it is hot.

Well the car doesnt run. We just did an engine swap and needed to move it out of the driveway. So I put it in gear and no movement. it clicks when I shift gears but just stays there..

Did you try to push it around in neutral? E-brake off?

How long has it been sitting in one place? Maybe the brakes froze.

Nope not the brakes either. I took the driveshaft out today and it rolled right where i wanted it to. so its the transmission.

Well, it sounds like Paul's idea about the internal mechanisms may be the problem. Good luck. (y)
