What late model cars will a posi rear bolt to the maverick, Without Driveshaft or rear suspension mods?
Depending on which 8.8 you get it might involve everything from cutting off coil spring brackets to just relocating leaf spring brackets.... that is if you can find the correct width to match what you want without having to cut one down...
Better off with an 8" gear swap, or puttin in a 9". 8" is good for up to approx 400 HP. Most of us don't get anywhere near that with our smallblocks.
You can convert 8.8's to bolt in just by changing the axle bearing housings and new axles. I did this when swapping in an Explorer 8.8 into my 89 Ranger.
So the point is that my 8 inch rear is a better deal than getting an 8.8 inch rear. I just figured I ask because someone offered to sell me a posi 8.8 for $50.00.
Not neccessarily. Depends on what 8.8 rear you're looking at. The Explorer 8.8's have 31 spline axles, so you're one step closer to a stronger rear with posi (trac-loc)You can convert your 8" to posi with just changing the differential unit, but you'll still have the smaller 28 spline axles. If you want a stronger rear, starting with an Explorer unit is usually a plus. If you're going to narrow it, you can do that and change the axle housing ends to the 9" style at the same time.
So can we just borrow the axles from the 8.8 and slap them in our 8" (and swap out my mini spool to accept the 31 splines)? Is there an 8.8 vechicle with matching length axles for our cars?
