Well, as some of you know I just got my license in january. And my first car is the Maverick with a 302. Anyway, it was rainy out, the roads were wet. I was turning and the back wheels clipped something in the road and the back end spun around. I tried to turn into it but the it kicked around the other way up onto an island in the middle of the road. Nobody was around, no poles or anything like that. No damage to the car or anything just a frightening experience to have a lesson well learned. And to think im putting a four barrel on the car tomarrow. -Todd
Yeah i had a simalar experince myself, 2 barrel 302. Turning left in just a bit of water on the road.. swung the ass end around did a 180 and just kept on going like i ment to turn right. Shake'd me up a bit but about 2 weeks later I bought a Edelbrock 289 intake manifold and am going to get a good carb to throw on top.
A few co-workers and I go for breakfast every other friday morning and it started to rain on the way to the restaurant and this is when I still had the factory 185/75r14's. ground was a little wet and I gave it a little gas at a stop sign I was turning left. the road I was turning onto was slanted downhill and the car just broke loose, the ass end just swung right around and I ended up going right..... thankfully nothing was coming but my friends all got a kick out of it. I like doing donuts as much as the next person but only when your planning on it..... somehow its just not as much fun when its unexpected
Hey Todd. Don't go wrecking that Maverick before we get a chance to paint it. For that matter, don't wreck it after we paint it either.
I came home and parked it i havent driven it in three days yet tomarow i go to work on the new holley four barrel and intake manifold!! Thats the ticket. Spin out = make it faster. But seriously when it gets back from the doll's residence its gonna be a special ride only car. -Todd
Todd how did the intake work out for you? Got any pics? It should look pretty good with the new air cleaner and intake!
when my daughter was driving the Mav. when she was in high school she took off at a red light and turned right on dry pavement, (she always had a heavy foot) anyway she spun all the way around and was facing the traffic behind her. I remember she was all pale and shaking when she came home and told me, It reminded me of a simular time I was a kid and showing off after church how good my 289 67 comet sport coupe would run, I completely lost it, slid sideways thru the parking lot and stopped about 2 foot from a 66 Ford Galaxie. My friends were impressed but it kinda shook me up.
Jim- I am in the middle of doing the intake right now. Im taking a break. i didnt get around to painting it because i dont know why but so far it looks amazing. The Holley carb looks great all shiny and zinced out haha. cant wait to get it on the road again. Thanks again. I want to pick up that rear end and the back seats soon but i dont know when. Thanks again Jim!! -Todd
