This is why i hate the Suspension Ford put in these cars... strut rod failure along with crazy things like this. I wish our setups were like A body Gm cars...

    WOW ...

Never seen this before ... probably happened from repeated flexing ... metal fatigue. You do have one hell of a motor in there if I remember right.

Glad you and the car are OK.

I lost a strut rod at just 10 mph once and couldn't believe how the steering got ripped out of my grip. I'd bet this one was a real eye-opener.

Opportunity in disguise ... Is there now a Mustang II front suspension in this car's future? :yup:

The metal on the strut tower looks pretty thin and rusty on the one side.

Maybe the lower control arm eccentric was tightened too much or something? Or the strut rod was adjusted too far one way or the other, causing the control arm to be constantly putting pressure in that area. I'm just throwing out guesses here....

well i officially hate this thread:mad::cry:.... went and looked at both shock towers and the passenger side has a crack in the metal just above where the upper a-arm connects on the half closest to the passenger compt.:cold: it appears to be through and growing like a window crack. i dont see any rust on it, but i do corner hard and have been for 20 years.... story short, is there a way to weld a plate over it to make it hold until winter? either way i plan to replace that shock tower now:slap:

How far is it from the engine mount? Or did it come off?
