well just because you have never seen one doesnt mean they didnt make one. and i know the bellhousing wont interchange the c3 has 8 bolts and the c4 has 7. as fars as the pan goes i was saying as far as indentifying the transmissions the c4 is virtually the same as the c5, except that one little hump as compared to the c3 that has a hump in it just like the c6 but one bolt hole shorter. as far as the manual goes.......well all i can say is here we go again, another one to contradict something because he is an expert. i try to help somebody out and someone always knows better even when i take it out of a manual. want me to qoute something from the bible so you can say jesus is wrong too? trust me i would trust that book before i would you
Think about this for a seccond... Ford (and all automakers for that fact) weren't doing too good in the 70's. They had the new Mustang II with a v8 in it and they needed an automatic to go behind it. Why in the word would they go and make a totatly new bellhousing specificly for the c4 and Mustang II when they could have used the c3? Because the c3 wouldn't hold up. And I'm sorry you've gotten so hostile about this. I too was trying to help someone out by correcting the bad information from that haynes manual. Just so you know, Haynes manuals aren't known for being 100% correct in the first place. Last but not least, Its not because i've never seen one that I say they don't exsist, its because anyone who's delt with a c3 would know they wouldn't hold up to a low compression 73 302. They 105 hp 2.8 v6 gave them trouble. I have seen it first hand. I've got a 76 v6 bobcat with 40,000 original miles and a dead tranny. Plus, I know a lot of this info from junkyard hunting, looking at sites like www.forpinto.com, www.mustangii.net, and www.therangerstation.com. These websites are put together by people who go out and hunt for info on these vehicles from the junkyard and etc, unlike the haynes publications. The ranger station alone has more info about transmissions than any other vehicle based website I know of. And trust me when I say these guys know their stuff. Some of them are ford techs., a lot of them have put massive reasearch into the trucks and can tell you anything you need to know about them. On their website it clearly states that the c3 transmission is NOT ADAPTABLE to a v8. Please dont take this as me trying to pick a fight, because I"m not. I'm just trying to save someone a headache by correcting false information. -Harry
