My 1974 Comet is in need of new rear Leafs.
So I called the local spring Co ( palmer spring in Portland Me ) and they said they had some in stock. Just a cool 400 dollars,
( Triangle springs 42 525 )I am now installing said springs, but they look toooooooooo! short!!! they are 52 inches long and the old one appear to be around 54 inches . Its sunday and of course the place that sold them to me is closed so i cant call them to ask questions, and the car is up on jacks intill I resolve this .

What can a girl do . Any suggestion's guys, can I make them fit, or did I get screwed on the deal .http://mmb.maverick.to/images/smilies/cry.gif

54 is the right size. you could probably mickey mouse it to work but i would suggest taking them back and getting your money back.... If you are in a hurry or have a nearby junkyard this tech article may help:

I plan to use it to beef up mine soon. you could probably compare the measurements in the above article to get an idea where the springs are off alignment at (in front or back of the rear end). being too far forward or back could cause issues for your drive line.

But I just went to General springs web sit and they list the there measurments at a little over 54 inches for the 4 leaf models , mine of course are just the stock three leaf type ,

I might just have to go the way of the van conversion. i know when I take back the spring I bought from them. They wont have the right ones.

I ran into that problem. The guy at the spring shop said to install the rear bolt then put a jack stand under the spring and lower the car onto the jack stand. The weight of the car will straighten the spring and make it 'longer'. it will take a bit of fooling to get it all lined up as you lower the car to get the holes to line up but you can do it,

Posta #2 and #7 make sense to me . I think your new springs will work.
