I just removed the power side hose from the pump at the valve. with the car idling, I could stop the flow of the pump withy my finger pressing against the fitting. is that all the pressure it makes or is my pump gone?

I'm going to say that either you are superman, or your pump is not cutting it. You are sure it is the pressure hose?

Yeah, if you're sure it's the hose coming from the pump I'm gonna say the pump is shot. These pumps are capable of at least 1400 psi, so I'm guessing It would blow your finger off the end of the fitting before you would be able to stop it...
