My buddy has this 72 Mav. he wants to get rid of. He said buddy price was $1200. It runs and looks good. The only things wrong as far as I know is the floor pan is rusted through on drivers side and the brakes need work. im not a master mechanic, but i can do simple things. Am I over my head If I buy this car?
a few questions. what motor is under the hood? are you willing and able to learn to do more? did you check the wheel wells behind the rear tires? have you done any kind of sheet metal working? do you mind spending time on it or are you looking for a buy and drive kind of deal? it looks like a fair deal to me for that price, but i also know that i would also be planning to upgrade front and rear to five lug disc brake, interior to buckets, repair\straighten the sheet metal and have it repainted, buying carpet to put in after replacing the tub(welding in new one), and i would probably have to keep it garaged somehow and only drive when not raining because it most likely has a leaky cowl vent.
well Im not sure what size the engine is but its the v6 auto. I have friends who weld, and what not so replacing the floor pan would be the biggest task. I'm not a fan of drum breaks, so a conversion would def be in the future. This would be a slow protect car I don't care to put in a v8, or have a rocket. My little v6 mx6 takes care of all that for me.
seem a little high for a 6 cyl. car the reason the floor is rusted is because the cowl area needs work and you have to take the dash out to fix it right there is probably rust in other areas as well price needs to be lower because of that
Pour some water in the cowl vents right behind the hood. If any water comes out inside the car, RUN,DO NOT WALK, AS FAST AS YOU CAN. And find a new buddy. That's a big or costly repair job.
yea I'd say the price is pretty high because I'm sure there is plenty rust under that vinyl top. But if you get a sweet price it might be worth it. If the cowels are leaky then you're looking at a lot of puddles inside the car. My car does that and it doesn't really bother me except that my shoes get a little wet.
The vinyl has already been removed. I think thats flat paint. . The car runs smooth and its only rusty on one side of the floor, and that rear quarter panel. The buddy says he knows about the famous mustang cowl leaks and he said its coming from the top corner window molding. Either way Im going to tear it all out and start replacing and fixing leaks. I have wanted a Mav. since i was 16, and I have enough room to store/fix it in my shop. So, yeah I decided to buy it. He paid 1800 for it 3 months ago, and just doesn't have time for it. It came with a grabber hood, spare grill and a few other misc parts.
yeah, Im not looking to put a 302 in it. I just want to fix it up repaint it and what not. whats an obvious sign of whether it is a 200 or 250? this is prob the oldest car ill have owned. My oldest was my first car which was a 79 four banger mustang.
