Ever since I installed my 351w and when I drive the car right when it gets around 190 to 200 degrees the car is hesitant to move from a start, like the feeling of low trans fluid...but once its rolling its find.
I still have the c4 straight six trans installed with the same 2:79 gears.

Do you guys think a shift kit will help?

You should put a c6 in it with 3.80 gears :chirp::chirp:

Fluid levels are checked and okay.
Brakes are fully operational and working correctly.

I read some where that the c4 is weaker for a six cyclinder and stronger for the 302.I think that you will wear out that c4 quick for it being so weak. you could have it rebuilt to handle the horsepower.

The cyl uses a C-4 body the same as the V-8s but with less clutches and plates in them making them a weaker trans. You need V-8 guts in the trans to make it survive the extra power.

how is the trans early in the morning when you first try to drive her? any hesitation? And it's not a flat spot on the engine? You'd probably notice this if it was the case, but sometimes the engine isn't pulling and not the trans and that's where that hesitation could be coming from.

Can you take the 6 cylinder C4 and rebuild it to the same Specs as a v8 C4? I think you can. Just add more clutches and steels? If so that is what I would do. I rebuilt one c4 and it really isn't that bad to do. I did all of the upgrades and added the clutches but it was already a v8 C4.
I don't see a need for a C6. Great transmission but huge and heavy.
I used the 500HP kit from Jay at Broader Performance and he did everything in his power to help me. If I ever need to build another tranny I will buy from him for sure. HE is the owner and talked to me on the phone for 30 minutes or more several times walking me through a problem. Can't ask for much better than that.

i took a v6 Chevy 350 trans rebuilt it in school and tried to add the extra clutches and it would not work without changing out some other hard parts to make up for more clutch pack clearance. not saying that this apply s to the c-4 though

    Change fluid. Adjust bands.

If all else fails, install the shiftkit. It will only help.
