Is anyone running the Dart Pro1 SBF 195cc cast alum heads with the raised exhaust ports? They are raised .135" from stock, do they make an already tight header situation worse (for a 302 based SB)? I have not modified the shock towers, nor plan to. Thanks!
Will not be a problem. I had a set of Hedman 88300's on a 302 with a set of the old cast iron TFS high ports with no fitment problems whatsoever. Those exhaust ports were 3/4" higher than stock.
Was that with unmodified towers? .135" is a little more than an 1/8", so your 3/4" is way more than the Dart's. Thanks!
They were cut back but that was only for plug accessibility not for header fitment. Moving them up .135 is not going to make any measurable difference in shock tower clearance. Besides, IIRC, as you move upward shock tower clearance either remains the same or increases slightly. Stack two nickels and that is about how much higher those exhaust ports over stock.
My canfield heads have the ports raised by a half inch, the only problem I had when this motor was in my Ranger was in going back in with E7 heads on another block. The E7's had isssues with the outer contour of the stock heads. (bottom of the header flanges needed to be ground at an angle to clear the head) Otherwise the exhaust bolted right up to the collector flanges. Ports rasied by .135" shouldn't be a problem. And actually, raising the ports would improve the clearance to the towers as they're moving away from the heads, the higher they go.
