    Hood Strut

Gas struts fail, prop rods never fail, KISS.

true, struts can fail, that is why I will leave the prop rod on the car, and will make another hole in the hood further down to give the hood more height when using the prop rod. BUT for now I like the gas strut idea. If anyone is interested the measurements are...the hood attachment is 17 1/4 from the back edge, and the fender attachment is 32 1/2 from the edge of the cowl. I used early 2000's taurus struts and the one removeable ball stud from the taurus, the other ball stud is smaller and can be taken from the taurus hood or an exploder hood hinge, the smaller stud will need to be welded to it's bracket.

True, but the first time some absentminded moron (such as myself) goes to shut the hood without removing that bolt, you've got a bent hood. I suspect even a strong gust of wind might flex it more than I'd like.

Yep. The solution is to leave the prop rod in for such occasions. (Or like anything else replace them when they fail)

Looks good, 55crownvic! ("props" for using a Ford part :D)

Guys, you can see in his pics better than mine... Look at them for a second and think about it - those things wouldn't get in the way of anything that isn't already blocked by the shock tower braces, and they come off a lot quicker than those...

Thanx faceless........I am thinking about relocating the fender mount, to the location of the second fender mount bolt. That might be the better place for it

I did this mod last year when i was bored and had a maxima laying around lol, also i think me and Thack are the only ones who have a locking hood latch with the cable release. I still have yet to finish this mod. Its in and working but its not clean like i would like it to be.

Brent has a cable release hood latch on his Draggon Fly. Not sure if it came that way during the conversion back in the 70's.

Probably part of the kit. I don't see how the original hand-operated latch could be used with that nose.

Pinky is glass lift-off, same as mine. No hinges, no struts, no rod.

    Hood

Just in case you did not notice, your hood is missing. Maybe that is a virtual hood.
