    I got to represent Wednesday.....

Well, this past Wednesday, there was a classic mustang show in downtown Beaumont on Crockett Street. Supposedly there were to be 250 + classic mustangs in from Florida, and the locals were gonna turn out too. This was to celebrate the 40th for the Mustangs. Well, I had a coupla buddies who were wanting to go, so I waxed the ole' maverick up, and away we went. I was under the impression that it was a Ford show, highlighting Mustangs- not so. They were there with just mustangs. About40 classic stangs and 30 newer one's. Well, they wouldn't let me and the maverick in. (At first). So after I walked around and looked at all of the stangs, I told a buddy to stay there. I went and got my maverick, and eased up to the street that was running along the parking lot that the show was in. Several people said "Hey look, It's a Maverick!" Now I was just coasting along, (revving the engine of course :p ) and these people were going ape over the Maverick. (My buddy said the "We (I) used to have one of those.........) stories started up immediatly. Well, people started yelling for me to get on it, so I smoked 'em a little bit, made the block, and asked the guy at the gate if I could get in. He was a jerk (had an attitude) and said if it's not a mustang, you can't get in. After I pulled off, he let a sububan in, so go figure. So I went and parked again, and an hour or so later, I looked up and lo-and-behold there was a honda in amongst all of the mustangs!!  One of the Mustang owners said, (and I quote) "Oh hell no, you got a Ford product, first cousin to the mustang, and they won't let you in. Go get your car" I did, and immediatly after easing in, I racked the hell outta the pipes.:p Guess what the people did.......They came running.
They could not get over the car. I had 3 people ask me to sell it. It was great. Later on, as each of the mustangs would leave, they would get down on it, and burn the tires off pretty good. That was pretty awesome. To see a Boss just burning the hell outta the tires is a new experience for me. All in all, it was a good day, and I got the Mavericks a bit more exposure. I would have to say that Mavericks and Comets are definatly getting more and more popular. Sorry this was so long, I just started typing and couldn't stop.
    Ya'll take care now.........Preston

Of course none of the Mustang guys know this...the Maverick and the Mustang share the same "birthday"..only 5 years apart! April 17th 1964, vs. April 17, 1969...
Sounds like the guy at the gate was a real jerk...why let a Honda in and not a Maverick? Kinda dumb....

    Great story!

That was the best car show story I have ever read! I own a '69 Mustang Mach 1 and all of the shows I have been in that are hosted by the Mustang clubs and the Shelby club have always been open to all ford powered cars and trucks. This year might be different because of the 40th anaversery although, I have seen no changes in any of the events, yet.

I took some pictures (actually a LOT of pictures) Thought I'd share some of my favorites. By the way, I forgot to mention, that for the most part, the mustang owners themselves were really nice folks. This first picture is of a 1969 Boss 302 that was B-A-D bad. This car had but one more hellacious engine. The other pics will just be of various cars/engines. Ya'll take care...Preston

This is a good friend of mine's 1970 Mach. I forget all of the Codes on it, but it is a really rare Stang. 351 C 4bbl though. All original. He is slowly fixing the small things on it.

This one had the correct badges under the hood and inside, so I am assuming that it is original and the real deal. Someone there had a clone with a fuelie five-o that was neat. I think this was real though.

Here's the last one I'll force on you, I just thought that this was a very nice and clean (drivable and practical) look.

Hey Preston, you take nice pics. And thanks for the nice pics. Glad you stood your ground.
Now I will stand on my soapbox.. Stang people can be like corvette people. Corvette people are my most unfavorite people. I even like ricers better than corvette people. I like corvettes, but dont like the people who own them. Case in point. moron who lives here in town had a 57 chevy belair for years. Was the most unfriendly person you would ever want to meet. Wave at him and he would never never wave back. Say hi to him and he would stone face ya. So he trades the 57 for a vette. At about the same time a good friend of mine inherited his uncles 75 vette. He asked me to go over and help get it running ( had not been started in 10 years) was in a nice garage and was covered. We drained the gas, put fresh in. Changed the oil, squirted some in the plug holes. Put a battery in it and it fired right up. So he drives it home with me behind him in case it doesnt make it. Who should we come across? Mr unfriendly in his vette. When he saw my buddy in his vette he had the hand out the window and was waving big time. My buddy flipped him off and I nearly died laughing. I see this in some stang people,,like if it aint a stang it aint nuttin. I have owned 3 stangs and still own one. Love stangs. Just dont like the attitude.
    Dan
ps my buddy hated the vette and sold it, he tried to like it, but just wasnt his thing. Built himself a bbc t-bucket.
sacreligious if you ask me lol
