So I turn off my car and park it. Get out of the car and walk away and notice that the break lights turn on and off intermittently ever 50 seconds or so. They turn on and stay on for 50 seconds then turn off and stay off for that amount of time. It kept doing that so I decided to just pull the battery terminal. What gives?

Yep, the brake light switch is needing replaced. My '77 F-100 did the same thing and that's what it turned out to be. Check the wires at the switch for overheating damage too. Mine had started to harden & discolor so I replaced it with a good plug from a parts truck I had.

    Hope this helps,

kragen, schukers, pep boys, preferrably NAPA. it clips directly to the pedal post where the master cylinder attaches. only with the cheapy ones, as listed non preferable, make sure they double check it to be non power brakes and be ready to need a new one again within 5 years...
