I am in the early stages of getting my 72 Comet to turn over.

The wiring from the alternator to the relay is non existent...

So I have figured out the STA, BAT and Field terminals connections, but there is a ground terminal post on the back of the alternator.... is this used?

Looking at the service manual, it appears that it's connected to the block or body....but it's not labeled in the schematic.

    Thanks

I would run it to the base of the voltage regulator.

I would go to the local Pull A Part or yard and grab the wiring harness off just about any 67-79 Ford. You will need the voltage regulator connector anyway if you don't have it.

I have the voltage regulator with wiring clip, but no ground from the alternator goes into it.

How does everyone have their alternator grounded, or do they?

Unless you are dead set on original, I'd grab a 3G 130amp alt from the JY and run that. Much more power, internally regulated, and you can ground pretty much any where you can scrape to bare metal.

You can ground the alternator to any good ground.
I use the rgulator base on the inner fender but you can ground to the engine ground strap or to the fender or frame.
