After a lot of homework and budgeting I have decided to keep my car an 8"(Bossmav has proved to me it will hold). Light duty street/strip car, drag radials, no slicks etc etc etc.. Now my ?

Anyone runnng the Auburn Gear cone rear? Although not a true posi it sure sounds good. Avoids the messing clutch situation and from what I read is very reliable. I am also considering the PowerTrak locker rear but I really like the ease of installation of the AUburn. Feedback? Scott

    Auburn ?

At one time I had an auburn in my 93 mustang, 8.8 rear end. It worked well but it finally wouldn't go posi any more.. not even at the strip, and they cant be rebuilt...even the stock posi can be rebuilt. I would keep the 8" and get a rebuilt stock posi. I don't like disposable parts that are expensive.

I have the Auburn Pro in my 77. I had to put 2 bottles of friction modifier to keep the chatter to an acceptable level while cornering. Other than that, it seems to be working fine. I spoke with Currie when I was getting ready to rebuild the 8.8 in my Bronco. He said Ford's Tracklock is a better system because it can be rebuilt. He said the auburn pro is not rebuildable. The Tracklock works great and is extremely quite in cornors

That's not completly true anymore alburn has a rebuild program now. You send in the alburn unit and they rebuild it, the last time I looked it cost $85 to have it done. I have one in my mustang it doesn't lock up anymore it works great when it worked. I put ARP stud kit also this stop me from breaking caps, three to date.

Hmm, doesn't look good for Auburn! For a little more I can buy the PowerTrac Locker rear end. Seems like the way to go.. Anyone out there have bad experience with these? Thanks for the input guys.. May have saved me some $$ Scott

I didnt know that about the Auburn. Thanks Thomas. I got the Auburn cause the price was right (free). I believe they cost about $417 new for the 8". The Tracklock is only about $260.

I like your prices better! Especially free!! PowerTrack Traction-Lok runs $469 + gears and the Auburn is $146 + gears. I am ordering the Power-Track this weekend unless I can find a posi on my junkyard cruise on Saturday. Scott

well, I have had part # 8110 in the power trax line for about 4 yrs and have put 175hp NOS running 13.50 in the 1/4. Now this was in a 72 Ranchero with 302 motor, but was cutting 1.60 sec 60 ft times. I have never had any problems at all, It is noise when turning, but after a while you get used to it. I have run M/T slicks and BFG cheaters with 3.50 gear set.
This part # shows as a 9" with 28 spline and 2 spider set up(1 center pin) It also works in the 8" as well. funny, it just dropped in like it did in the 9"...just have to install it now...

    Thanks..

I see the 8" 28 spline but no 9" 28 spline in their catalog. The part # 8110 does not show. Could it be the #2800 ? Scott

    Re: Thanks..

That is for the "No-Slip" set up,part # 2800. The "Lock-Right" locker is a diffrent set-up. If you call them, I know they will have the right part # for it. It has been over 4 yrs since I got it. I did get it thru Summit Racing..The listing is for a 9" with 28 spline, but is the same for the 8" with 28 spline. I had to call them and talk with the Tech people there..

    Found the Number

The summit part number is 1810. This is a simple deal...replace the spider gears with this assy., and you get almost the same locking as a spool, and the turning of a regular locker... The only complaint I have heard from other users, is the sound it makes when you turn. The clicking sound is VERY loud..I get people asking me if I know I have a bad u-joint....

Anybody check out reider racings website? They cater mostly to 4wd but list lockers & such for 8". Same for randys ring and pinion.

    somebody provide me a link

i was curious about the traction lock setup for approximately $450 that had been mentioned in this thread.
is that a ford piece or is it a mustang II rearend?

id like to know what it'd cost to convert my 2:79+peg-leg to a 3:50 posi trak.
i had been looking for a Mustang II rearend. i cant seem to locate one, but am told they are direct bolt-ins into a maverick.
actual ratio isnt too crucial. i'll take what i find, but think that approximately 3:50 would be ideal for my performance need.

id like to hear suggestions as to the best/most economical method of conversion.

the car is an internally stock 302. i have added a 4 barrel and dual exhaust. she really runs good.
ive got a pair of 66 289 heads, will add roller rockers, 270 cam, and a better intake manifold. i doubt ill install headers.
i hope to have a very streetable mid 14 second car.

    anyways..
id like to have the rearend in place before i tear up the drivetrain.

can anyone provide me any related links to my need?

    thanks
    roadrage
