I don't know about '73, but my '74 with air had an on/off switch.

Are you asking how many sets of contacts or positions the switch has?

I believe the only switch in the system is the evaporator thermostat to keep it from freezing up. I will have a hi/low pressure switch in my system. (it is sitting here in a box, waiting... )

Matt's right. Mavericks had neither a binary nor trinary switch...only the evap deice switch that would cycle the compressor if the evaporator starts to freeze up.

A binary switch will interrupt the compressor if the pressure is too low or too high...a trinary does that and also will kick on an electric fan when the A/C is on. Back in the Maverick's day if the pressure got too high there was usually a mechanical pressure valve that would vent the refrigerant out...these days that would be considered bad for the environment (and probably illegal), so an electrical switch will just shut off the compressor clutch. The low pressure cut-out prevents damage to the compressor if there is low or no refrigerant in the system.

    Here ends today's lesson. :)
