The power steering box is good because it has a quicker ratio.

If you swap in a manual steering box, it is a couple more turns lock-to-lock, and also has a really light feel to it.

I kept the power box but took the assist off. It has a very good road feel to it.

It does get heavy below 5 mph. I also have a smaller diameter Grant steering wheel (less leverage, but I no longer hit my knees ... (y)).
I am tall and weigh right at 200 lbs, and the added steering effort really isn't a problem...
might be for someone substantially smaller (like my wife.... ;))....
or someone with bad shoulders (like my buddy ... only a true friend can laugh out loud at another's disability ... he was flopping around a lot trying to turn it ...)

if it feels like if you sneezed wrong the car would be 3 lanes across the highway it is Just as it cam from the factory.

The power steering in these Mavericks and Comets was WAAAAYYY
Over-kill. I would venture to say that you could steer my 6 cyl power steering car using a stiff drinking straw and not bend the straw

I had power steering in a 68 Mustang back in the early 90's. My wife thought the right front tire needed air and she put 65 pounds in it. A cop was following her on a back road about a mile from the house and pulled her over. The cop made her blow up a balloon. She talked herself out of a failure to maintaining her lane ticket.

So what fan belt do you buy to run without the pump on an AC car? My pump is toast and I was tempted to take it off anyway.

Doesn't the power steering pump have a separate belt? What else is this belt driving?

My ps belt drives the water pump. There's a couple of different set ups out there, one with no ps where the alt belt also dives the water pump. If you take the pump out you'll have to change your pulley set.

Take the pump off and wrap a tape measure around the pulleys nice and snug. Write down the measurement and take your old belt to autozone and tell them you need a new one in the length you measured.
