I took the '72 to a shop last week to get an alignment done because the car started to wear the tires unevenly.

Well, they put the car up on the lift to check what shape the front end was in. I thought this was a waste of time, because I rebuilt the suspension two years ago. Low and behold, they found that my ball joints are worn out. The upper joints both popped loudly as the suspension unloaded, and you could visibly see them moving around when the guy grabbed the top of the tire and rocked it in and out. I rebuilt the suspension in May 2007 using this kit from Mustangs Unlimited: http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy01.asp?T1=CA68K+01&Category=&catkey=EMUSTANG

These ball joints that have been on the car for barely two years, have more play in them then the original factory ones from '72 did before I rebuilt the suspension. Needless to say, I am NOT happy at all. So now I have to do upper and lower ball joints before I can get an alignment done on the car.

Stay away from urethane strut rod bushings, and unless you just need new control arms, stay away from these cheap azz suspension kits these Mustang parts houses are selling. It's all garbage that wears out too fast and very well could cause a failure in your front suspension.

didn't your Bro. bend one of the front rims? could that have set up premature wear on the suspension parts?

The lip was just bent a little. The wheel runs straight and balances out fine.

In my opinion Mustangs Unlimited should just be avoided in general. When I was restoring my Cougar I ordered parts from them and everytime something was wrong despite me giving them part numbers and descriptions of what I needed. When I contacted them to tell them my parts were wrong they said it was my fault because they don't make mistakes and said they would exchange the parts but I would have to pay to ship the wrong stuff back then again to get the right stuff (I'm in Canada so shipping isnt exactly cheap). I got a few 4 letter words to describe them but oh well they lost my business for the rest of my life and anyone who asks me where to get Mustang/Cougar parts.

That sucks. For my vehicles its top of the line Moog parts. They pay in the long term. We see off shore joints and tie rods fail in 10000km then they have to pay the labor again to install a good part and align it. It just isnt worth it in the long run.

    Jamie,

What kind of warranty is offered on the parts? If it a one year warranty, then it is the cheap China stuff. If it is a lifetime warranty, contact them and get new parts. Even the best manufacturer can get a bad part. If it is a TRW part, they should honor the warranty with a MOOG part, since Moog bought out TRW. That is what we do at Advance. Mustangs Unlimited doesn't make the parts. They just sell them. If they don't stand behind their products, well, then that is another subject. Life happens.

    Jim
