was watching the power block on spike and watching muscle car? i think? either way they said that the serpentine belt thing (sorry dont know what its fully called) can free up quite a bit of horse power. How true is this and is even worth considering getting?
Parts were cheap JY stuff, I did mine, have no complaints. As far as HP?? Maybe, but I did it for the simplicity.
dunno about HP, but it looks a bit better and doesnt slip as much. just seems like everything runs smoother. i have it on mny blue car...
Here is a pic of the stock JY setup off a 89 Mustang or similar You could remove the driverside brackets if you are not going to run A/C
There was just an article in Car Craft (maybe Hot Rod) about adapting GM serpentine belts to earlier GM motors. One thing mentioned in that article that was new to me was that as a belt rides around the pulleys, it develops a harmonic wave that is a bit of a whipping effect, and that creates a little bit of slippage. This travels around the belt at a slower speed than the belt, and runs in the same direction as it is turning. V-belts are kept tight by adjusting the accessories, and are subjected to this a lot more than a serpentine system. The spring-loaded idler pulley in a serpentine system helps keep this wave in check, neutralizing it, making the whole system run a lot smoother. I learn something new all the time ...
The serpentine belt system also looks nice. With the less slippage and smoother way of running, i dont know why ide pass on not getting one someday.
reverse rotation water pump, March style brackets from flea-bay, underdrive pullies for a fox-mustang 5.0, cleaned up factory serp belt p/s pulley, powermaster serp belt alternator pulley. you can buy kits rather than peicing it together but i had most of the parts laying around from some of my past mustangs so i really only needed the brackets and alt pulley. i also used the newer style p/s pump as well, not necessary but i like the look better. and it all looks better when it's cleaned up...
yeap, yours looks very sweat. Nice and neat engine that way. I'm gonna start piecing one together . . . so I'll start with ebay
btw, if u run the underdrive crank and w/p pullies with the standard size p/s and alt pullies, the belt u need is right at 60" (600K6 at my local advance i think).
