I like a stick shift transmission in my fun cars.

For drag racing, most people are better off with an automatic, just from a timed consistency standpoint.

i don't like auto's it's way faster with a stick shift and i read that with a auto trans you lose 15 to 20 percent of your hp / i used the world class t5 witch is rated at 300 foot pounds and i love it

I used to have a 302/C4 in mine and it was great. Ran 8.90's at the track. I went to a 347/toploader and WOW! I'm not real consistent at the strip but like you, I only take it to the track occasionally. This car is so much more fun to drive now. And unless I do something severely wrong I run anywhere from 6.97-7.10. Sure, I screw up and run some 7.20's and 7.30's which just means I need more practice. Oh...what fun! Time to go racin again!!! :chirp:

cant really bet a 4 speed for the pure fun of it and with right shifter you can shift pretty fast

I am quite partial to 4 speeds and my car has spent quite a bit of time at the dragstrip in the last 34 years.

go with the 4 speed. you have to make compromises with the c4 to have it work best for the track. the stall speed usually is to high for the street when its optimised for the track. im not really happy with my c4 the stall speed is too low for the track. when i had my fox mustang, it had a 5 speed and it was a blast to drive and race.

If you race to win, go automatic. But for the pure fun factor and just a kick in the butt, there is nothing to compare to a manual transmission! Plus it just sounds cool!

:drive: Look how happy this little guy is with his manual transmission! Thats what you will look like too! Unless you are gonna sit in traffic every day, I would go for the toploader.

The C4 is better for bracket racing. The Ford Top-loader four speed is at least as strong as the C4. If you are like me and the car is for fun then the four speed is more fun but if you don't like changing clutches, breaking driveline parts, having to start on hills and having to shift all the time then the C4 is a lot better.
My daily driver is a modified C4 but I do have a Friday night cruiser that is a four speed. I stay out of down town - too many stop lights on hills - and out of stop and go traffic. It is fun to drive though...
