i go to start the car up and let it idle for a while go and press on the gas and it kind of kills its self by shooting air or gas or whatever through the crab and hits the aircleaner cover...so i have to wiggle the gas pedal fast to keep it from dying... increased my gas and idle screw a little and it isnt that bad but its still their... did i happen to put the distributor in wrong and its a little off???:16suspect btw no flame out of the carb
Put the engine on TDC and pull the dist cap and see where it's pointing. You may have answered your own question.
When I changed my distributor same thing happened to me. I would get a ton of backfiring. I thought I set the timing but when I had it checked at a shop I was wayyyy advanced.
So it ran fine and then started this after you had the distributor out? If that is the time line then I would say the timing is off. If it just started this out of the blue I would say it is the accelerator pump or cam. clint
Sounds like either a timing issue or a lean backfire - does it do the same thing when the car is warmed up? If so then it is probably ignition - if not then you need to adjust your choke to close when it is cold.
mabey its both timing and choke??? ill reset the distributor and see what happens.. i got nothing to do anyways and it stops when running for about 15 minutes... do not quote me on that
the only explanation i can think of is that i got mixed up with chevy and ford... reset the distributor and its running fine now... thanks
