    Changing Plugs

Y'all can talk about changing plugs, the worst plugs change I ever got into was a chevy full sized van with a 350. I did it for a widow lady and did not charge her. I figured if she came back I would take it to another shop and pay them to change the plugs.

An insane person could not "engineer" some worse than that.

In 1967, I had to change plugs on a hot corvette engine for a guy who was in a hurry. The chrome tin shields over the plugs were like razors. I almost needed a blood refill.

Ha ha ha oh damn I forgot about the exhaust shields.. My C4 vette had those shields and yes I put allot of blood into that car!

I guess the comet is not bad just not use to a large engine bay and that 302 is stuffed in there and not being able to remove the inner fender wells

Now I need to focus in changing the stock carb and intake and ignition...

My best tip for changing the plugs, is that the next time the motor is out of the car, cut the shock towers back. You can gain about 2 inches of space on each side.

I can change the plugs on my 351W with the towers cut much faster than the original 302 as it original came in the Comet. The 351 is about 1.5 inches wider, too.

Worst plug change for me ... 1974 Fireturd (that car was a real slug ... hated it ...) with 350 Poncho motor and A/C. You had to remove the passenger side front tire and go in through the wheelwell to get to some of the plugs on the passenger side.

2nd worst plug change ... 1995 Monte Carlo ... unbolt the forward struts holding the motor in place ... use a come-along to tip the motor forward (it is in there sideways) ... replace the 3 plugs that sit right next to the firewall .... glad that thing is gone too ....

    Tool Combination

This is the combo that worked for me -- a spark plug socked with a hex head and a ratchet/socket made by Kobalt for ratcheting long bolts or close quarters. This combo put the ratchet at just the right distance to let it work, even with the engine lift brackets still on the manifold.

ive never changed the plugs on a mav with stock mainifolds so i dont know about that but with headers is no big deal compared to lots of other cars ive had to do do through the years. the worst ones that i can rember are 4 gen f-body lt1 and ls1 cars (camaro, firechickens), chryser minivans with v-6s. the back 3 plugs have no visable line of sight to them and are practily against the fire wall. almost all rear wheel drive vans suck, there plugs are usually level with the floor and will garentee bloody knuckels.

Lol oh damn that sucks. Well I do know headers are an option now usually headers make it worse in trying to change plugs :)

Thanks for all the ideas guys

    Plug Change

I changed for a lady for free in Delaware on a 66 Comet with a 390 in it.
    Once was enough for me.

Get a street carb holley 2bbl. I think it is 350 cfm. The 500 is for racing engines in the 350 cid range and will run very rich on the 302.
