I've got an efi 5.0 and aod from a parts mustang, and I plan on dropping both into my maverick.

I wish to NOT seperate the aod from the 5.0. I remember when I pulled the old 302 and c4, it was so tight that I removed the trans and pulled that seperately.

NOW, I've got a painted engine bay.

Am I wasting my time for even considering this?? Should i just seperate the two and drop them in seperately? Any experience here? I don't want to jack up my sprayed engine bay..nor be halfway into this and realize I've got to pull it all out and seperate the two, thanks!

    thanks for the quick reply.

must have been tight eh? Maybe I should remove some of the steering components, I seem to remember those being in the way.

Were you able to do it without banging up the shock towers or firewall? Maybe if I wrap it all in a blanky..lol I'll be ok. I'm sticking with EFI, so I'll pull the upper intake, but I want to drop everything in, accessories and all in one shot. This will greately aid my putting the car back together.

This is the way I always do it in my fox mustangs, but I wasn't sure if the maverick had enough room for this.

I see to remember your build...so you did do it on seperate occasions?

I've got a killer combo..it's a parts car I got for $700 that's complete with a ford racing roller 5.0 crate engine, aluminum gt40 heads, real cobra efi intake, and an aod that's BUILT with a lentech valve body

I had blankets covering the inner fenders, no carb, no headers. Wasn't any tighter than any of my other Mavericks were in the past. Just takes time.

No AOD, but I used custom made cardboard templates to protect my paint.

Point of advice? If you can do it, don't get rid of the donor vehicle until you are completely done with the conversion. Finding those little brackets and parts in a junk yard that you don't know you need until you need them is a P.I.T.A.!

great advice...I'm actually going to pull the donor vehicle in RIGHT next to the maverick in the garage, and intend a hot swap, just pausing to swap the oil pan and other necessary items.
