Crickets chirping at the Pinto site, I come to the experts asking a question (since Mavs are set up the same)..... Buying a new floor dimmer switch for my wagon. Rock Auto has them listed as two types - "with" autodimmer, and "without" autodimmer. Huh? All I ever recall is a basic switch that turned highbeams on, then off, if you hit the switch with your foot. Was never aware that Pintos had any sort of "autodimmer" feature. Do I just buy a switch, regardless of type? Will either work? Thanks. Chris
My 75 Eldorado had a floor button as well as an autodimmer. The button had a lot of wires coming out of it. The one in my Comet doesn't. I assumed the autodimmer button had to be tied into the dimmer wiring to override the feature.
Personally, I have never seen a Pinto with the Autodimmer feature. I would look on my dash and the rear view mirror area for a sensor. If you can't find one, I would say it doesn't have that feature. Hope this helps, -Scott H.
Yup. Never suspected it was an option, so I was wondering why Rock Auto was listing a matching dimmer in this section. Again, thanks for the help all!! Chris
Pintos and Mavericks didn't come with the autodimmer function as an option; as far as I know, only Lincolns did, although certain other cars like the Thunderbird might have had the option. i've noticed that sometimes auto parts places like Rock Auto will list something like that in the wrong place. They aren't always the best place to verify if a certain option was ever available in a particular car line or not... GM called the system "Guide-o-Matic" and I think Ford just called it Auto Lamps... Incidentally, my Maverick does have the autodimmer foot switch because I converted a system out of a Lincoln for my car, but that's a whole different story...
