Anybody out there using headers with a 3 or 4 speed transmission, using the z bar setup, not a cable? What type of headers work best? I have a set of Hooker and Doug Thorley's. Either of them work?

I have the hookers on mine Jim. Had to do a little banging here and there. That Z-bar is a bitch with headers. I don't think the DT's will work at all.

I just put hookers on my with the z-bar....tried headman and the PS cylinder hit the lower tube...even with the drop bracket, and the z-bar wouldnt fit either.

I order a set of hookers and outside of raising the drivers side of the motor to get them in place...everything works.....but be prepared to put your arm into a pretezel to get the z-bar and brackets in....it will fit but it is a real bitch to get it all installed.

did you have to remove the Z bar and then reinstall after the header swap?
    any pictures?

Also are the hooker 6901 the most common header used.. the hedmans seem to have a oval port that would poorly match the stock square pot of the head..

You have to remove the z-bar to install them. I also had to trim some of the metal off the top because it was hitting a tube, but it was a simple fix.
