I have a 65 comet with a 289, and I want to put a 5.0 in it. Can i just put my manifold and carb on the motor and have it work fine? Will my manifold bolt onto a 87-93 5.0 block? And will the motor mounts that I have now work too?

Yes to all accept you may have to re-tune the carb for the 302.

Did you check to see if the '65 298 is a 5-bolt block?

You will need to swap the gear on the end of your distributor, assuming you will be using the 289 dist (if it is electronic). The roller motor requires a hardened gear.

Nice catch JS!!! 65 was a change over year...You need to see if your 289 has a 5 or 6 bolt bellhousing pattern. If its 6 bolt your good to go...If its 5 bolt...you will need to change your bellhousing to bolt it to the later engine.

How would I have to tune to carb for the 302?

you shouldnt have to do much to the carb. readjust the idle speed and mixture then drive. you need to have a way to determine how its running while driveing. chances are it will be close enough not to worry about.
