My cousin is building a 5.0 for his car a little at a time. After he is finished with it he is going to swap it in. He told me he would sell the orginal engine in the car when the other engine is done. It has about 160,000 on it, runs great and doesn't smoke. What would you figure is a good price on the long block. I was thinking around $500 but not sure

I was going to swap in a cam so it would get a timing chain. I also plan on some gt40 heads

I had around 165,000 on my 86 gt. It had actually started to oil foul spark plugs on 2 cylinders. That was after I had swapped on a set of reconditioned heads. A leakdown test showed that the rings were starting to fail.

...and the fact..."I was going to swap in a cam so it would get a timing chain. I also plan on some gt40 heads".
are you getting any sheetmetal, dist. intake, dipstick or starter?
i gave $50 for a 5.0 short block. all i used was the block/crank/rods and the roller lifter stuff.

if i were pulling the cam/heads...i would at least...crank seal, hone and rering/bearing the bottom end...

    ...:yup:...
