This has been done with stock suspension. I'm not saying it's the best way or even a good way to do it - I don't know. But there's a pic floating around here somewhere of a Mav with the shock towers cut and the shock mounts moved outward. I wanna say Dyno Don did this.

    Here's an example:

Ok guys check this out. I just talked to my parents and talked them into letting me sell the 460(yeah i took your advice...it would be too much money and work for me). I am going to go up to a place near atlanta and buy this mav up their with a straight six in it. So do you guys think i should keep the straight six or get a 302 bore it out and hop it up? The car has a C4 transmission in it but the dude says that he thinks he has a leak in it so what should i do and how much would you buy a 460 bored 60 over and hopped up to pump 450 horses for?

Oh idk if i am for sure getting it yet. But probably am. Depends on how much i get for the motor. This dude only wants $700 for the car. And it has no dents and very little rust. Its his daily.

Im in the same boat you are, I have a 77 with a I6 and a leaky tranny...Im just replacing the tranny and keeping the I6 for now, no reason to fix something if it aint broke...lol...plus it gives me time to fix up a 302 while I wait.

Theres a Tech Article that details the swap from an I6 to a 302...let me find it....

    Here it is.

Yeah i am going to sell my 460 and go buy the Maverick, then find a good 302 and bore it to a 347. Then go get a C4 tranny.

Man they didn't even try to get those cuts straight, nevermind whether or not the cuts should have been made like that... This thing looks like something you'd see on 24 Hours of LeMons.

1976 maverick soon to be 460 powered...project on hold.
A c-4 will bolt up to a 460 with the proper bellhousing. you will need either a pan fill style c-4 that will accept a 351-400m bellhousing (same bolt pattern as a 460) or an aftermarket bell to work with either case. Performance automatic or JW sells the bellhousing. I have the 460 c-4 combo in my '80 zephyr, and I'm using the pan fill / 351m bell arrangement.
