I competed in the Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge this past sunday at Texas Raceway and went all the way to the semi finals before redlighting with a -.001 R/T. I wasn't too dissapointed though because I really didn't expect to go that far. It was my first competition race in over ten years. The car ran real good but a little inconsistant because of traction issues off the line. In the first round I faced a Chevy II and won on a holeshot. Second round I ran right on my number 6.67 and was able to get around a tough 65 or 66 Mustang. The third round I faced a late model Mustang and got a little lucky as we both turned on the red bulb but since he left first he was disqualified. Then came the semi finals. Four cars were left and three of them were Fords. A big block 63 Falcon Sprint faced a Kieth Craft 347 powered 68 Mustang in the first race with the Falcon getting there first to advance to the Final. I was up next in my 347 powered 72 Maverick dialed in at a 6.69 up against a late model Camaro dialed in at a 6.63. I roll through the water box and set the line lock. Rev the motor and dump the clutch to heat the tires. Roll out of the burnout and shift back to first ready to stage. We both stage, the motors rev and I dump the clutch! -.001 Redlight. Oh well maybe next time.
Nice Video Eric! Just found this site today. Talk to you soon! Jim Logan 68 Mustang Formerly powered by a Keith Craft 347. LOL!
Thanks guys. Looking forward to next season. Jim, welcome to the site. Have you started on the new engine yet? Eric
Thanks Eric. Ya..got a 351 based project started. Man...you heard the ol saying "hindsite is 20/20", should have just stuck with the smaller motor combo again. This stuff is expensive!
TMCCC's are so fun, you get to see some neat cars. How did you do at the Motorplex? My brother won in my Maverick, first time driving it! Maybe we can meet up at TXR some Sunday.
Duan, congrats to you and your brother on the win at the Motorplex. I wish I would have stayed to watch. I lost in the first round. The Mav didnt hook very well in the two time trial passes and still ran a 10.57 and a 10.59 @ 125 (a personal best) so I dialed in at a 10.57 for the first round. Just before my run they had a cleanup in my lane that made the car hook up. In fear of breaking out I lifted and was passed at the finish. I probably lifted too soon (10.66 @ 113). Next time I'm running it out the back door! I know it would have been a low 10.50. Your right about the TMCCC. Nice cars and some of the frendliest racers around no matter what brand. Sundays at TXR sounds good. Give me a call or send me a PM. If not see you next season. :Handshake Happy Holidays Everyone! Eric
