Hey guys I have a couple questions. 1. Has anyone put 1972 Comet body on a newer mustang frame? 2. If not is this possible? Any help would be appreciated... Thanks, TJ
I've seen older GTO and Charger bodies put on newer frames of GTO's and Chargers so I'm pretty positive it is possible to do an older Comet body conversion onto a new Mustang frame. It would just take a hell of a lot of work to do.
go to this link www.sn65.com it is a mustang but our cars are close in size to that year LOTS OF WORK to do but it is dam sweet when done brad
Wow. Best Stiffler(sp?) impression - "I don't know man, that sounds like a lot of work" Used to have that .wav quote play whenever I received a new note from a particular guy at work. Thought of it immediatly when I read the OP. I saw an old Bronco (74 I think) that a guy had meshed the body with the frame & mechanicals of an Explorer Sport. That was pretty cool. And a lot of work. And that was for one Body on Frame to another Body on Frame. This is a pretty cool idea, though. That SN65 website is amazing. I wonder how much of the chassis' structural integrity is based on the body subsystem above it, and how such a swap effect the ride and handling of the end result. If you do it, you must document the process. What generation of 'stang are you considering for the donor? One thing for sure, it gives a whole new meaning to "replacing the floorpans"!
Anything can be done with the right amount of skill and buckets of money. Since those 2 don't seems to go together here..if it's been done, it's not by anyone here.
i think dave has a point about buckets of money for the nicer "newer" mustangs, however there are certain year "newer" mustangs that are pretty much part cars value wise. you could blend the two different parts cars to have a one of a kind and sell off whatever you dont need.
Neither car has a frame ... it would be adapting one unibody to another. If doing something like this, the 05-up Mustang is far superior in chassis stiffness and handling than the earlier ones. The three link rear suspension works really well ... not twitchy at all going hard around a bumpy corner.
as stated these cars are unibody. there is no need to go through all that work. your beter off just doing custom suspension and chassi stiffening. you should be able to get beter perfromance than any factory mustang ever had if you get the right stuff.
