Anyone done a fuseblock cleanup procedure? Meaning: removal if necessary, cleaning and brighting up all contact surfaces/points? If so how involved is/was it?
Depends on your abilities. When I did mine, I had the complete wiring harness out of the car. Removed each individual fuse "holder" one at a time, cleaned with a drimmel, and re-installed. Important to only do one at a time so you don't get them mixed up. Honestly....if yours is still working fine.....I wouldn't mess with it.
If you're gonna pull it out to clean it may be easier to wire in a modern blade type fuse block. All depends on your abilities and desires
I had my wiring harness replaced with a Ron Francis 18 circuit kit, and it is great! It uses blade type fuses, and you can change some circuits from battery to switched. It was for a Ford, Express 18, and costs about $439.
I was able to get 2 brand new fuse boxes from Ebay for under 20.00, and of course, plus shipping. They were government surplus boxes used in Crown Victoria police cars. I just need to ring the wires out to the fuses that they control and install under the dash somewhere. It looks like it's big enough for anything that I could imagine adding to the car. It all depends on what you can do or want to tackle yourself
Where wud u find a place under a Mav dash to put that big of a fuseblock? The price was right but, probably way more circuits than the average Mav wud ever need. Thanks for the ideas folks. Im not having in problems now but know the contacts on a 38 yr old car has buildup on contact surfaces that decrease conductivity. I exp that last week when I did the dash cluster repair/upgrade.
Acutally I haven't figured it out yet but my car is a 1970 - no glove box - no air - no nothing. My other option was to put it in the trunk behind the back seat. My battery will already be back there and I'm changing all of the wiring anyway. We'll see
Ok! If ur battery in rear and u don't have a glove box, or AC plus ur rewiring than putting it in the trunck makes sense. Gud luck w/ the mod. Maybe u can post some pic's on progress and/or when ur done.
I forgot to finish my first sentence. :16suspect I meant that without a glove box or air, I might just find some space under the passenger side of the dash. My other option was the trunk. I'd be happy to post some pictures but the fuse box project is still down the road some. I'm trying to finish up my cage right now.
Not one specifically for a Maverick, but Advance auto carries those little 4 gang holders that you can chain together. I figure someone could get 2 and have enough for a stock set up. Delcity has them and others. http://www.delcity.net/store/Fuse-Blocks/p_176.a_1
