How far does a quart of POR 15 go? I would like to do the floor pans battery tray rear quarters and gas tank.
Can't tell you how much coverage you will get from a quart. I've used it in smaller areas in the past. One thing I do know is to put saran wrap on the top of can, before you replace the lid. Otherwise it is quite difficult to get the lid off next you use it.
don't forget the other prep stuff... WHAT IS THE “PROPER PREPARATION”? If you are sandblasting, blow off the lose dust and apply directly over the surface. On all other bare metal or rusted surfaces use the Marine Clean and Metal Ready preps for proper adhesion. Metal Ready is a rust remover that leaves a zinc phosphate coating on base metal, the perfect pre-primer for POR-15. Areas that have been previously painted should be cleaned with Marine Clean and then lightly scuffed with 400 grit sandpaper. Keep in mind when POR-15 is applied over another coating it will not prevent against rust long term but will serve as a durable, moisture resistant coating. NOTE: New steel is coated with a protective oil finish at the mill. about 1/4 the distance of a gallon... sorry, but i had to be a smarty pants. it actually depends on how many coats you use, whether you brush it, or spray it.. etc. you can have 3-4 people using the same quart and covering 3-4 different amounts of space.
i did my floor pan, and the trunk floor top and bottom of it and only used about half the quart. i preped it by running a wire wheel over the rust, sanding the painted aeras, then wiped it all with acitone. i applyed it with a cheap paint brush, kept it off my skin by useing gloves. one coat goes on really thick and seems tobe enough. i had to remove some areas of it where the plates for the cage mounted and its some tough stuff. i used sanding disks and the por 15 is defintly alot harder than standard paint. i did it 3 years ago and there hasnt been any peeling.
Alright thanks for the input guys. Next question what is something i can prep it with there metal ready is rather pricey.
If you don't use their stuff, your wasting your money buying POR 15. You need Marine Clean, and Metal Ready. It's a complete system, expensive, but worth it.
Well i ordered the marine clean and the Medal Ready. I ordered a quart of all of them do you think that is enough medal ready and marine clean for the quart of POR 15?
Marine Clean is suppose to be diluted with water, Metal Ready is just sprayed on. Depending upon the area..if anything you'll need more Metal Ready.
