Hey every body, I'm looking for a decent muffler for my car that doesn't break 103 decibles but still sound good, I'm not a big glass pack kind of person, the car is a 200 l6 using stock manifold. This is an odd question since every were I look people are trying to go louder, but I can't break 103 decibles. Thanks.

Can a 200 get that loud? I ran around for a little while without a muffler on a 250 and it wasnt horrifically loud...Id assume any muffler would be good.

My opinion, just get a normal muffler. A 6 cyl engine with any type of performance muffler sounds obnoxious.

True with stock exhaust...but with headers, divider plate and cam...it will sound like a V8. Check out the sound on this 6 cyl. http://1bad6t.com/sec/images/BobbyB/Bobby.wmv

Does anybody make larger cams for a 200 or are they custom?

Compcams, Crane Cams, Clifford Performance, Ford Six Performance, Isky Cams and Schneider Cams.

If you want to hotrod a 6 cyl...I'd recommend getting the Six Cylinder Performance Handbook by David and Dennis Schjeldali http://falconperformance.sundog.net/
It is full of tricks and tips

I've found headers, it's just says there for off road use only, why is that? Add a cat and it would be better fuel economy and emissions I'd think.

I think ALL header say that on the box. Adding a catalytic converter will restrict the exhaust flow and might hurt gas mileage.

Does anybody know what kind of fuel mileage increase, if any, I would get from just headers and a larger exhaust.

Not much at all. But they are the basis for future mods.

    X 2 ! It'll sound better with straight pipe.

That was only at idle. Open it up and it sounds nothing like a V8. I've heard several sixes with both split headers and turbos or glasspacks, they all sounded obnoxious. They're far better sounding with just straight pipe (all the way out the back) and no muffler.
