Looks like I would have been just about the only "Maverick" owner here if things had been different. I always knew my Pinto was "Special". lol Jim
That's really interesting. Thanks for posting it Dave. I guess it was sometime after this that they decided to make the 1970 1/2 Falcon Torino? They say Falcon on the quarter and Torino on the hood. The owners manual is labeled 1970 1/2 Falcon Torino. There was also a 1970 Falcon, but it wasn't made the whole year (actually just late '69 as '70 models I think).
If you look at the four door closely, and a Maverick four door, you can see a lot of simularity. The top angle at the c pillar is very close. It very well could be the four door maverick was a cleaned up copy of the four door Falcon, while the two door was a totally new design. And another thing....the 69.5 Maverick's used Falcon front suspension parts. Don't know if they were left overs or they were actually planning on keeping them that way....
thats sweet we could all be driving around falcons right now if they didn't change the name. well at least they left the comet name in the end.
Yup - we have always found it funny that the auto parts stores couldn't give the right parts when you tell them its a 70 Maverick. Falcon parts - we still laugh at that.
Not always on the Falcon parts. The very earliest 69.5 ones - yes. It seems that as the "real" 70 parts were developed, they added them to the cars with the key switch under the dash. My 69.5 has none of the Falcon parts. My 69.5 was actually built in October of 1969 (according to both Marti & Ford 999 reports). Makes no sense, being built with the under dash key switch at that time, as the actual 1970 Maverick, with the key in the column, would have been unveiled 1 month earlier in September. My guess is they were using parts up until they were all gone or my build date on the reports is wrong.
Besides the dash mounted ignition switch, does your car also have the metal data plate on the drivers door, and 1969 side marker lights? or a combination of these?
I had the sticker on the door jamb and I didn't know that there was a difference in side marker lights.
