both of those are good idems. my question is why do you think you need them?
    what is your motor combination?
whats is your inteded use of the car?

It is going to be strictly a strip car.

Ok so new option. I am planning on going with just the distributor for now and then possibly adding the CDI later in life. Anybody have any reviews of Mallory or their products.

Just my opinion but I'd go with a MSD box (or something of the nature) first, then a better distributor later on down the road. But, thats my 2 cents

if you go with a mallory get the magnetic trigered one. the unilites have a high failure rate. ive never seen a magnetic one fail. the other thing with mallory is that the advance weights are under the plates in the bottom of the distrubor. this makes it very hard to adjust the weights and springs. a msd has them on the top right under the rotor. very easy to adjust.

What about a pertronics dizzy? The only reason i am avoiding MSD is i have been talking to a guy at napa auto parts that my dad and i have been dealing with for a number of years, and he says that msd is a great product, but a lot of what you are paying for is the MSD name.

the pertronics is good. if this is a dragrace only car you want a wide cap. it will help with high rpms. msd isnt just a name. its the little features like the ball bearing shaft, the quality eletroinics used inside. the easy to adjust weights and springs. the high quality materials used in the cap and rotor. it all adds up. its defintly over kill on a street car but for dragracing it has advantages. you can also use the stock duraspark distributor. it has a wide cap that lends it self well to high rpms. the eletronics in it are very dependable.

For the time being, untill next season, it will be a street/strip car. How do i tell if it has a wide cap?

MSD, Even the Mallory tech recommended the MSD. I do have a buddy that is trying the new Mallory self contained unit, He had to send it back after about 2 months. Something burnt up inside. But they were speedy in getting it back and so far no more problems.

Go get a reman points dizzy, replace the points with the electronic module of your choice (Pertronix is only one of many out there) replace the small cap with the early 80's large post type(brass terminal) cap, buy a set of Ford Racing 9mm wires a hotter coil and a set of Autolite plugs. Cheap, reliable setup. and cost you half of what you'll spend on a complete MSD setup, and run just as well. Or retrofit your points setup with a Duraspark setup, which is the equal to an MSD setup.

I was thinking this also. Of get a duraspark box and a reman dizzy.

    both are cheap and reliable

still a fan so far of the cheap pro comp i have on mine. but i guess if i had more funds at the time i probably would have went with MSD. But then again, have not had a single complaint yet with the cheap one.
