I'm looking for the tank that hold coolant for the Radiator and i can't find it! I was just refilling the tank when i saw it had a pinched hose and i replaced it and filled it and it started to leak when i then realized that it had a crack in it...i need some help thanks in advance!!!!
I bought a new radiator hose at Advance Auto for under $20. My Comet has a hose from the filler neck and it simply drains overflow onto the street. Never had a reservoir.
They had those things back then? I bought one a few years back at Walmart for a little bit of nothin. Don't know if you're wantin to keep it OE or not... Im sure if Walmart had em most auto parts stores would as well.
Mine pees a little every time I drive it more than 10 miles at a time(everyday, twice a day). I have to top it off every other day or so. 16lb radiator cap maybe...dunno but my radiator has a small pinhole in it and new ones are far out of my price range(free to less than zero) so I deal with it.
I have a '77 and mine doesnt have one...maybe someone put one in at some point? As with Paintank, mine drains out into the street.
I use a Moroso brand tank which I think I got from Summit, mainly because it's compact, but I imagine you can use just about anything if you want the OEM look, just plunder a junkyard...
My solution to reservoir tank I installed (heaven forbid, agghhhh, egads, what the hell?) a GEO reservoir tank. Fits great between the washer reservoir and horn.
I'm using, believe it or not, a A/C accumulater off of a Chevette! Solid aluminum can, I hollowed it out with a drill and screwdriver. I used the plastic plugs that came with the new one to fill one of the holes, and drilled a hole in the other one for the overflow tube to fit in. I made an aluminum bracket for it and mounted it in the corner by the radiator.
What does it do? The water goes in and then what? I like that my car pees a little when it gets driven. Like a dog thats happy to see you.
The coolant expands and pushes up on the spring in the radiator cap releasing it into the overflow reservoir. When the coolant in the radiator cools off and contracts, it creates a vacuum that draws the coolant back out of the overflow tank back into the radiator. It's magic.
Well I bought my Maverick from an old lady that just drove it to the market and back for like 10 years and i haven't started doing anything to it til now its always had that little tank there...she ordered it with some options like power steering and power booster brakes etc...she says so maybe she got it? idk
So having to top off the radiator is normal for my old girl? I wondered because it doesn't really over heat, it pees a little after long trips after the car is off. Maybe a minute or two after I get out. 16lb rad cap okay? Otherwise I can swap for a 13lb.
