I am so excited, I finally get to go. It's an 1/8th mile track. It's the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. Gotta get the car ready for the track, need to either box the battery in or put a firewall in the trunk. I have to also get a radiator overflow and fix my steering column electrical short. Definitely excited. So what are your guesses on my ET?

Stock 71 maverick, stock 302 with performer RPM intake, edelbrock 600 carb, C4 tranny and stock ignition. The car was dyno'd at 186hp.

I got 65 mph at 10.6 on my first runs in the 1/8th. That should give you a ballpark idea.

A swap to 3.80 and spool gave me 10.06 and 69 in the 1/8th.

OK, I got the rear firewall done, don't know if it'll pass inspection and I put the package tray up also . . .

the only thing that i can think of that you will need is the battery shut off switch. oh and do you have an radiator overflow tank?

Why do you have to do all this stuff to your car? Doesn't the track have a test and tune/run what you brung, street car type thing where you can run regular old door slammers??

Our track has days where you can bring anything from a full on rail dragster to a stock VW bug and run it down the track. The stock, street legal vehicles are just that and there is no moving the battery or firewalls in the trunk. If ti has a set of tags on it then the inspection guy walks around and looks for anything obviously dangerous and you run your car down the track as many times as you can/want to in a day.

Now when the cars start getting down to where they are running under 12.99 in the 1/4 then I think they start getting a little more serious about roll cages, battery and fuel cut off switches and stuff like that. But just for an old basically stock Maverick street car I don't see why all the fuss??

Even if you have a test and tune or run what you brung, you usually have to go through a tech inspection. If you have the battery in the trunk you have to have a shut off switch and the trunk needs to be isolated from the passenger compartment, or they will not let you run. I was next to a stock looking Toyota Supra on a Friday night in Tucson. He ran a 10 sexcond pass and before he came up the return road they told him not to run again. That's not to say there aren't any tracks that won't let you run, but if they are NHRA or IHRA, they'll probably not let you run.:)
