Im redoing the front suspension on my mav and i wanted to cut about an inch on the coil springs. I have a i6 right now but plan on dropping a 302 in it. Should i wait till i drop the 302 in before i cut them? Will it sink lower cause of the weight of the 302 or will the shocks counter act that? Thanks for the help guys!

mine has 250 6 cyl a/c springs under it

I cut about 1-1/4 coil with the 302 f/i in it and a 2" rear block

    before and after

Wait, the extra weight of the 302 may get you where you want to sit. There is no telling how much spring is left in your springs.

The 6cyl weighs about 385 lbs, the 250 a little bit more, the V8 weighs around 460 lbs plus the V8's weight will not be sitting directly on the front suspension like the 6 cyl does. The weight will be shifted slightly more to the rear of the car taking the weight with it. If you plan on aftermarket exhaust and intake this extra 75 lbs will almost disappear.
The V8 cars with out AC got the same spring as the 6 cyl car with AC so theres not as much difference than you think. What makes the difference is how worn out the spring is

If you cam wait that would be best. And, shocks don't counter act anything as far as load. They absorb shock.

What he said. Put the motor in and drive it around and let it settle down. Then start cutting if necessary.

Cut it short. You can always cut it again later ,but if you cut it too much your done.
