Well Ive been eyeballing some shocks.I hear good things about the gas-a-just KYB's but there a discontinued part Ive heard not so great things about the GR2's. I did notice monroe makes a nitrogen filled shock(monroe matic) for our cars anyone ran them and can give me some feedback on ride and handling. My car has a antique set of high jackers and red ryder gaberials on it and is due for a upgrade
I had some brief experience with the monro-matic shocks up front. I really have nothing factory to compare it to because I was just replacing old 30yr old shocks. For 20bucks/shock I thought they were pretty nice. Monroe also makes the sensa-trac and the reflex which are much nicer but in the 40-50dollar range (not sure about fitment) Edit: My car wasn't fast enough to provide any change in handling. However it did ride better and worth the money, imo.
I'm happy with the 65-70 Mustang Edelbrock IAS I put on the front of my Falcon. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-33214/?image=large
how did the monroe matics ride? Im not looking for something high end just a good budget shock that rides somewhat decent and wont make this thing lean like a boat into the corners (within reason of the stock suspension).
I went with the shocks Gabriel shocks from Autozone. Made the car feel smooth and it also felt as if the car was floating in the air. I don't know how much that had to do with the suspension still being stock but it did feel better. And out of curiosity, anyone know how long the stock shocks went for before they needed to be changed? I'm actually curious about this since I didn't even know if the stock shocks on my car were still good or not.
I ended up buying a set of monroe's from advance auto got one on the car then it discharged all the gas and oil all over my car.pulled the other out of the box and depressed thge rod and same thing happened.SO i ended up taking them back and went to autozone and got the gabriel's like was already on it.The front shocks were very very spanked on my car and ended up having some other small issues going on that was brought to my attention Hopefully it will make a large differance in driving since it is now my daily driver. they used to reccomend them every 40-60k miles
We discussed this subject last summer about name brand companies making cheap quality products to sell at discount stores to their specifications. It's a shame you can't trust a company name anymore, now we need to learn the sku number to know if the parts are cheaply made for the discount market. See post #44 about Exide Batteries. Sounds like Monroe is playing this game too. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?p=569750
