My front suspension in my 70 mav is shot, after the 302 went in it it killed all the stock suspension. So my question is, what do i need to fix up the front suspension? I dont much about suspensioin but i know its gotta be more than just shocks. ha. so any help would be appericiated. thanks

New front springs will get it back up where it belongs, but while you are in there, replacing all the bushings, etc. is a good idea unless that has been done in the recent past.

Personally, I like PST polygraphite bushings. You will hear some folks say they are too harsh, but I like them. The kit is very complete and comes with new lower arms, already assembled. Just be sure to get some stock rubber strut rod bushings, and throw away the poly ones that come in the PST kit ... you can crack a strut rod otherwise. More info on them here under the Vendor Links section of the board.

Also, if your car is 4 wheel drum brakes ... now is the time to get some discs on the front. More motor means those scary drums get scarier.

PS... going by your screen name, are you a guitar player? ... bass player here.

If You don't know alot about the suspension,or never done it before, let someone who has or a garage handle the front coil springs. They can and will kill or maim You,if they escape from the spring compressor.

Also some guys don't like the rake that New v-8 coils give them. I put New ones on mine and it took awhile of driving to lower the front end alittle. As for poly bushings I love mine makes the front end handle Great! Good Luck be careful!

oh. But I did get an INFINITE amount of help from the forum pretty much step by step.

All this talk about V8 coil springs. If you look in the Ford Master Parts Catalog you will see that V8 coils and 6 cylinder coils are the same part number. What sometimes, but not every time, will be power steering and/or air conditioner. The 6 cyl with AC is the same as a V8 without AC.

do some research before buying your spring IMO. I bought the ones with the correct part number for my I6 car with A/C and now I'm gonna have to cut them. I had to put spring clamps on it just so that the shocks would reach. Later research suggests if I had gotten the springs for the no-A/C I6 that I wouldn't have had a problem even though my car does have A/C. Just saying, don't end up in my situation or make too hasty of a choice like I did.

I believe the main difference is in the idler arm ... other than that, I think the kits would be the same.

It will take time for new springs to settle...a month at least. Did you have the car on the ground when you put the top bolts on the shock mount? I replaced my coils a few weeks ago and had to push the shock down to start the bolts.
