Has anybody ever taken a fiberglass pin on hood (cowl type in particular) and used an old hood frame to make the hood work with hood hinges.

I dont like the idea of taking hood off and sitting it somewere when working on engine or letting it cool down and would like to use hood hinges.

    Just an idea

I've thought that having a hood that you can just lift up would be nice. I always worry about putting mine on the ground when cooling off between rounds. I keep waiting for someone to walk right over it. I usually put something like a cone next to it. However there are times when it is nice to have it completely out of the way too.:)

I swear that I saw some company had a street version of their fiberglass hood. Our cars do not use hood springs, so it is just a matter of reinforcing the hood where the hinges bolt up and then using pins to secure it up front. I doubt a full frame would be needed.

It may have been Unlimited Products ... :naughty::shocked::yikes:

What I recall for sure was that the street version of the hood was 30 lbs, and the lift-off version was 19. I took my hood off and weighed it, and it was right at 50. At that point, I figured that the money for the hood would be better spent on aluminum heads ... more weight savings and more power.

MaverickMan's carbon fiber hoods were able to be mounted to the stock brackets. They just have to have enough material where the brackets mount to handle the flex and bolts.

Dave, how did they secure the hood to frame work? I suppose a pic is out of the question but I sure would like one.

have seen the hoods steped on at the track, not good, we go to the craft store and get four 3" square soft foam blocks and glue them to the under side of the hood 2 so they clear the firewall and inner fender on each side, and 2 near the front , inside of the core support and inner fender, so we can set the hood on the roof of the car in the pits and not scratch the car, they compress enough to hold the hood sturdy enough not to slide around in a light breeze ,but not enough that the hood will make contact with the roof....may have to adjust the foam block thickness for a maverick hoods shape ,but i can't see why it wouldnt work on them as well ??
