I have a 65 comet that i want to put a 5.0 in and make fuel injection. I am planning on doing it in a month or two and i am trying to get all the parts i need first. Since this car is my daily driver I need to have everything before i start, and I was hoping you guys could help me with the list. I know i need the engine, intake, fuel rails, fuel pump, and computer. Do I need any sensors that are not on the engine? I heard i have to make the pump work with my tank, how do i do that? I don't want a fuel cell because I want to keep my trunk, but I'll go that way if i have to. What other parts do I need? What size are the fuel lines that I'll have to make?
Thanks a lot for any help, and just for opinions too!

Try TFFN. Theres a few guys over there that have done it. I will be doing it to my 65 Comet pretty soon, but so far all Ive done is set the manifold and injectors in place. From what I can gather, its pretty straight forward. I seem to see more Mustangs with EFI, so those sites will also have the info youre looking for. Also, you dont need an "EFI engine" to use EFI, unless youre converting from a 6 cyl or your current 289(?) is on its deathbed.

EDIT: Youll have to cut out your shock tower braces too. I managed to find one that looks like a regular export brace, but is custom made to fit a stock manifold, but I got the last one. :)

My 289 seems ok, i just heard that 5.0s were better engines. Why did you need to cut your shock braces? I thought the blocks were virtually the same and you could use the same motor mounts. is it hard to put in an AOD? Sorry for the overload of questions, i just need to get everything squared away before i start.

early/mid 90's f150-F350/e series vans use a external fuel pump that can be used. with your stock pickup. just have to deal with the return line then

If your particular EFI uses a MAF sensor, you'll need the air cleaner box and all the ducting too. You'll also need the TFI distributor, the coolant temp sensor, the Intake Temp sensor, the Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor, the Throttle Position Sensor, and I think they have a Knock Sensor too. Could be some more I'm missing, but those are the big ones to get the engine running. Also, there will be places where you'll have one sensor for the computer and one for the gauges that measure the same thing, such as coolant temp. So, just be on the lookout for that.

Otherwise, you can ditch the MAF and just use a Mega Squirt controller with closed loop wide band O2 capability. It makes for a cleaner install since you can just put a small air filter right on the throttle body, and it doesn't require all the tuning that a Speed Density system would.

If you want to use the Ford EEC, go to fordfuelinjection.com Very helpful

Thanks alot guys! TFFN and fordfuelinjection.com were full of great info. But i'm still confused about putting the motor in, i heard i could just mount the 5.0 on the old motor mounts in the stock location but Decurion said i have to cut out my shock tower braces, so which is it?

you should be able to drop the motor on to the motor mouns. the upper intake mainfold will interfear with the shock tower braces. you will need to either cut and modify one of the braces or just replace them with something custom made that looks cooler and works beter. its really just a small obistical. the wireing and plumbing of the fuel system are the harder tasks and they are not that difficult with the right info.

I really cant tell you much more than whats been posted, the rest I think is probably best you find out for yourself anyway, like the specifics of the wiring. I dont have the AOD in yet, but it will. Someday. The project is on hold for a while during my career change, but itll run someday. I was hoping to have it running for the Falcon nats this summer since its finally being held close enough for me to walk to, but I dont think thats going to happen.

My last question is what size are the fuel lines? Probably not really my last question, but the last i can come up with right now.

3/8s will feed the motor just fine.
