So this comes after a couple weeks of debating with myself switching the Maverick insurance from USAA over to Hagerty for full coverage. Guess I should have. Got home last night as some strong storms were hitting. Had some very strong wind on the highway so I know it was bad at the house. I get home and the NEW carport (one of those metal frame, vinyl top deals) had blown clean off the Maverick, stakes and all, and is wedged in the bushes. So I rush out and get the car cover over the Maverick so it doesn't get rained on any more About a half hour later we get put under a severe thunderstorm warning with winds in excess of 60mph. Fantastic. So, I get the Maverick and move it out into the front yard away from the trees and proceed to disassemble the car port so it doesn't blow the hell away. Luckily I did both as the winds were quite strong and a large limb fell where the Maverick would have been. Unfortunately I get up to survey the damage this morning and the metal frame of the car port did a number on the Maverick. Lots of scuff marks on the passenger side. Hopefully that can be buffed out. This aint though... The wind must have picked up one of the feet and slammed it down right at the edge of the fender and hood then drug it across the car. It's chipped clear to the metal and the drag marks show metal as well. Not a good morning.
Its not as bad as it could have been...broken windshield(with flooded interior), bent trim...it could have fell on your roof and caved it in...whole number of things that could have been worse. It sucks but always look at the bright side of things
Oh very true. I could easily have not come home and things really would have been a mess. Or worse yet, the storms were SUPPOSED to get here that morning instead of that evening... In which case I would NOT have been at home. Thank God the forecasters were wrong. I would... If nothing else to get it away from the salt spray. My truck is from PCB and it has far more rust than what southern trucks are supposed to have.
That sucks. Those temp. car shelters sure have done a lot of damage the past few years. I considered getting one for winter storage and putting it at the farm but Mike who owns the farm talked me out of it for fear of wind damage.
Ive had pretty good luck with them until now. Ive got another that's been standing for over 10 years and several hurricanes. However, the anchors it came with were about 3 times the size of this one. That will change this after noon however. Six, three foot anchors going in the ground to ensure this never happens again.
if it was me i would buy some mobile home hurricane anchors.sorry to hear about your luck.but it could have been worse.
Wow, that sucks!! Those things don't hold up around here, the snow makes quick work of them, unless you constantly brush them off.
that always sucks, but be glad u didnt have it destroyed by a hurricane like me and razorsharp have had.. and im sure there are a few others on here.
That sucks! I had an attempted murder on my Comet a while back done by a filthy tree in my yard. I can relate. Hope you get the scratch worked out.
I feel your pain... ...see Patches at the other end of the driveway, this was over him last night before the storm... 03/08/05 we had to chain it to the truck because it was trying to roll over into the street. this was the second time it has blown off...last time it blew upside down the other way... not a scratch either time... ...frank...
I'm sorry to be hearing this. My uncle has had a terrible time with those storage shelters as well: snow buildup caused a collapse that dented the roof of his '49 Mercury and destroyed the roof of his '65 Galaxie. I'm glad to hear that the damage to your Mav wasn't too severe.
