Hey everyone! I am doing a L6 to V8 swap. Im putting in a completely rebuilt 302 thats gonna have a little extra power! When it comes to exhaust I am a little unsure of what to do. My car is a '76 Maverick that has power steering and power disc brakes. Also, if you can't tell by the title of the thread, it has a column shift C4 transmission. I have read that the Hooker 6901 headers are really good but will there be any issues with the column shifter? I have read that it can be an issue. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Anyone who has put headers in with a column shift, let me know what you know! Thanks, Bryce
headers I just installed hedman shorties on my 74 maverick part #88400 and they went on without a problem. But I took the power steering off my car they just have more road feel with manual steering. I didn`t have to jack the engine up or anything they just fell in . They go in from the bottom. In fact I think there is more room with the headers than with the stock manifolds. Of course all cars are a little different if it has been wrecked or abused could be an issue. Or maybe I was just lucky. If you pullup MATTERICK on this site ask him and he will e - mail you pictures. Hope this helps and good luck.
I bought the Doug Thorley shortie set up for my 75 column shift c4, no problems just follow the directions.
You can use the shorty headers or swap to long tubes and adapt a cable to operate your shifting from the column.
