My donor engine for my grabber blue 72 resto has it's heads and block painted RED by the previous owner :(

this will not do. I'll just paint the block black, but for the heads, I want the original aluminum of the heads to come back.

I thought about using aircraft stripper, but I heard that may not be good for alum heads??

I've heard brake fluid or paint thinner may work?

anyone here have good success stripping paint from alum heads?

well Damn, you' mean they're not built from cast iron?!

That's the biggest DUH moment I've had all week!!! Great point, and this makes me happy, I've got aircraft stripper sitting at home on the shelf. I'll try a part on the back of the heads first, but i'm sure it'll be fine..thanks!

I use gun scrubber. It is basically compressed acetone. Keep your arms covered and use eye protection. That crap burns both immensely.

however i learned in a chemical plant that being soaked from head to toe with MEK is REALLY PAINFUL! gasoline on the groin isnt a joy ride either, so keep that in mind if someone tries to accost you for your wallet while your filling up....hehe

Aircraft Stripper ... be sure to have good ventilation (like outside) and a breather on. It is not like regular stripper where it just burns your skin ... fumes are very bad for you.

yeah, a chlorinated solvent type filter is needed. regular petroleum vapor cartridges do not stop methylene chloride... also good rubber gloves desiged for chlorinated and petroleum based solvents. works good though.

the gasoline on the groin experiment was ironically the result of helping some stranger bail out their jet ski....

Yep, same thing happened to me when I was a kid. Dad was filling up his jet boat and some spilled over creating that rainbow pool on top of the water. I got a ring around my body just above the navel, and when it started burning, I got out of the water and got a nice light coat of leaded fuel all down my body. The groin was the worst, with the original ring being a close 2nd.

ancient update...I sprayed aircraft stripper on the heads, let it sit for a couple of minutes, then just pressure washed it. paint came right off, no problem.
